Regeneration of former sheltered housing scheme in Gloucestershire kicks off
Two Rivers Housing has started work on a project in Gloucestershire to transform a former sheltered housing scheme into 20 new affordable homes.
The Johnstone Close site in Staunton will see 14 homes for social rent delivered and a further six for shared ownership.
The affordable homes group has partnered with Harper Group, which will be responsible for demolishing the existing properties and building 20 new homes, which will include two-and three-bedroom homes and one-bedroom flats and bungalows.
Terri Hibberd, development manager at Two Rivers Housing said: "There is a real need for affordable family homes in Staunton.
"After years of planning, the regeneration of Johnstone Close will allow us to make better use of the site and support the housing needs of the local community.
"It’s fantastic to see the demolition begin, as the first step to providing these new homes, which are so desperately needed."
The original buildings needed re-design and modernisation so in 2019 Two Rivers Housing consulted with tenants and reached the decision to redevelop the site.
The scheme received planning permission from Forest of Dean district council in 2022 and earlier this year, Two Rivers Housing secured a grant from Homes England to help fund the development.
Andrew Chadd, construction director from Harper Group said: "We are delighted to be working with Two Rivers Housing again to deliver this project.
The regeneration of Johnstone Close will provide much needed affordable homes for families in the area and we are excited to have the opportunity to provide more good quality, affordable, sustainable homes for families in Gloucestershire."
