Triodos Bank UK has appointed Mark Clayton as chief operating officer (COO).

With its UK headquarters in Bristol, Triodos provides sustainable finance for businesses and organisations focused on making a positive cultural, social or environmental impact.

In his new role, Mark will oversee customer operations and financial crime, large project implementation, facilities management and ICT services.

Bevis Watts, CEO of Triodos Bank UK, said: “Mark has shown a great understanding of this business, our customers and the opportunities for growth.

“We feel he is a great fit and the right person to shape the future of operations at Triodos.

“We have big ambitions for our organisation, and I’m confident that Mark's knowledge will be instrumental for our success in the rapidly changing banking landscape.”

Mark previously served as COO at Unity Trust Bank, another member of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV).

Prior to that, he led a 23-year career at HSBC, where he held various senior roles and led large teams within the retail banking division.

Notably, he was head of premier distribution, where he spearheaded the strategic growth of the retail premier and international business.

Mark also holds a degree in financial services in association with the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

He said: “Having transitioned away from the mainstream banking sector a few years ago, I’ve found fulfilment in roles where values steer decision making.

“I look forward to leveraging Triodos’s influential platform to drive meaningful change through sustainable banking practices.”
