Hampshire’s QinetiQ wins £150m military communications contract
Farnborough-based QinetiQ is set to provide engineering and programme expertise to help improve tactical military communications for the British Army.
The company has won a three-year contract from Defence Digital, part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD)’s Strategic Command, with a potential value of £150 million.
Around 100 staff from QinetiQ’s Team Advance will join the MOD delivery team to assist with programme and project management, cost engineering, approvals, network, security and safety engineering.
Together they’ll look to help the army make better informed and more timely decisions when operating on the frontline.
James Willis, chief executive for UK Intelligence at QinetiQ, said: “In this digital era, reliable and robust communications are the bedrock of an operationally effective fighting force.
“As a trusted partner to the UK military, we’re delighted to continue to support development and delivery of this vitally important programme that enables our armed forces to defend our nation, safely and securely.”
Brigadier Jez Sharpe of Defence Digital added: “We’re delighted to be able to award this contract to Team Advance, who we’re confident will deliver the expertise we need to take land tactical communications to the next stage.
“We look forward to an enduring partnership as we bring capability to the hands of our frontline troops.”
