OXCCU joins campaign backing sustainable aviation fuel production
Oxford clean tech startup OXCCU has joined the RISE coalition in support of the Back British SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) campaign.
The industry-wide initiative is urging the UK government to fast-track the SAF Revenue Support Mechanism Bill to ensure the nation meets its target of having five SAF plants under construction by 2025.
The Back British SAF campaign, supported by the UK’s major airlines, airports, and fuel producers, aims to position the UK as a global leader in SAF production by ensuring the necessary investment is secured for domestic SAF plants.
It highlights the vital role that SAF will play in decarbonising aviation, with demand for the cleaner fuel already outstripping supply worldwide.
OXCCU says its one-step process, which directly converts CO2 and hydrogen into SAF, will play a key role in reducing the cost of power-to-liquid fuels and helping the UK aviation industry meet its net zero targets.
Andrew Symes, co-founder and CEO of OXCCU, said: “We’re proud to support the Back British SAF campaign.
“Establishing a robust SAF industry in the UK is crucial to securing both our energy independence and leadership in sustainable aviation.
“At OXCCU, we believe that by working with key industry partners, we can scale up SAF production and ensure the UK stays competitive in the global transition to net zero.”
Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Stansted airports have already pledged their support for the campaign and for a strong homegrown SAF sector.
